Chicago/Planegg-Martinsried: the US-based Proteintech Group triples the size of its site in Bavaria – with a key focus on research & development, production and logistics
The Proteintech Group – headquartered in Chicago – celebrated the opening of its German branch of Chromotek GmbH / Proteintech GmbH in Planegg-Martinsried in March 2024. The new site will be used, in particular, for European activities within the scope of research & development, production and logistics.
The Proteintech Group was founded in 2001 by Mr Jason Li, CEO Proteintech Group. Mr Li himself was an associate professor of immunology at the university in the company’s founding years. Proteintech is now active at nine locations around the globe – and Martinsried will be one of three R&D and production entities worldwide. The site also serves as a central logistics hub for all Proteintech products for customers within the European Union.
ChromoTek: successful spin-off from university
ChromoTek was founded in 2008 as a spin-off by researchers from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich. In 2011, the fast-growing Life Science company moved into the Innovation and Start-up Center Biotechnology (IZB) situated in Martinsried near Munich, and was acquired by the Proteintech Group in 2020. In March 2024, Proteintech / ChromoTek opened its newly built headquarters in Martinsried, thereby tripling the office and research space at the Bavarian site.
Video statement on the locational benefits for Life Science companies in Bavaria
The COO of the Proteintech Group – Mr Jeff Lee – explains in the video statement why the US company decided to expand in Munich, what plans are being pursued at the new company location, and why Bavaria also offers ideal conditions when it comes to striking the perfect work-life balance.
Invest in Bavaria was represented by Ms Gudrun Weidmann, Head of Invest in Bavaria, at the opening ceremony, and would like to thank the company for its commitment to the location. Our team is also available to lend any further support, and wishes the Proteintech Group every success at its new location in Bavaria.
