"Baierun e Youkoso!" – Sunstar Engineering Group opens European head office in Rain am Lech

The global Japanese Sunstar Group is now conducting its European business in the automotive and chemicals sectors from Northern Swabia, where the company has set up a production and development site. Invest in Bavaria supported the important settlement from the beginning – investment volume: 20 million euros.

Bavarian and Japanese culture met in Rain am Lech at the beginning of October for the opening ceremony of Sunstar Engineering Europe GmbH. The newly constructed production building was ceremonially opened with the traditional Japanese "Kagami Biraki" ceremony (literally "opening the lid"). The lid of a large sake barrel is broken open and a toast is then raised to harmony and happiness with all the guests.

The family-run Sunstar company was founded in 1932 as a manufacturer and distributor of rubber adhesives for bicycles and has since developed into a multinational corporation. In the meantime, the Oral Care, Health & Beauty, Motorcycle parts and Chemicals divisions are the main areas of business at the company that employs over 4,000 people in more than 20 countries. All the European activities for Sunstar Engineering, the industrial division of today's Sunstar Group, will now be bundled at the new location in Rain am Lech.

Invest in Bavaria actively supported Sunstar's complex project to establish a production site for adhesives and sealants for the automotive industry in southern Germany. At the end of the day, the town of Rain in the district of Donau-Ries turned out to be the ideal location. The location was chosen among other things because of its good infrastructure as well as its favourable geographical location to various automotive manufacturers in Southern Germany. Soft location factors such as the high quality of life in the surrounding area also played a significant role. The town and district have supported Sunstar's project from the start in cooperation with Invest in Bavaria and have designated a new industrial area especially for this settlement.

50 jobs to be created at the new location

20 million euros have been invested to date and 50 new jobs will be created in the long term. A development and customer test centre is also to be built at the 4,700 m² production site that has now been opened.

"Our new location is associated with jobs, trade tax revenues, further investments in the near future and social support. We are proud to call Rain am Lech our new home in Bavaria" – Yoshihiro Nakata, Managing Director of Sunstar Engineering Europe GmbH

The government district of Swabia has gained an attractive, innovative and globally active production company with the settlement of Sunstar. The settlement distinguishes the town of Rain as an attractive business location. Representatives of the company and politics pressed the red button together, symbolically giving the starting signal for the commissioning of the machines and production. Invest in Bavaria wishes Sunstar every success at its new location in Rain am Lech.
