Chinese air taxi start-up AutoFlight opens European headquarters in Augsburg

AutoFlight is a global tech start-up based in Shanghai that develops and manufactures electric flying machines for passenger transportation. The opening of the new location was celebrated with a casual get-together in Augsburg. Invest in Bavaria supported the company in establishing itself in the Free State.

AutoFlight is primarily engaged in the development of safe and reliable flight logistics systems as well as Advanced Air Mobility solutions for passenger transportation. The start-up focuses on new technologies such as artificial intelligence, highly automated flying, 5G technology and innovative materials to further develop the eVTOL industry. The company operates a plant for the production of composite materials in Jining, China.

Competence centre, B2B sector, skilled workers and central location led to the location decision

A research and development centre is being set up as the European headquarters at the Augsburg site. The focus is on the certification of the air taxi “Prosperity I” with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). A technology cluster with partners, service providers and suppliers will be created for this purpose. Augsburg is also to be expanded into a Europe-wide customer centre in the medium term.

“There is an airport here for the test and certification flights. Augsburg is also located in a centre of competence for everything related to aviation – with the universities and colleges in Augsburg, Munich and Stuttgart, but also many supplier companies and other manufacturers. As a result, there are also more skilled workers and talents here than elsewhere.”

– Mark R. Henning, Managing Director AutoFlight Europe GmbH
