Positive growth in the number of Chinese companies settling in the state– Annual meeting of Chinese executives in Bavaria creates close-knit networking

The state is proud of the continuing growth in the number of relocations by Chinese companies in Bavaria, not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality. “If you want to attract the golden phoenix, you first need to plant a beautiful tree!“ – this approach, quoted repeatedly at annual meetings of Chinese executives, reflects the constant pursuit by the business promotion agency Invest in Bavaria. Today, the tree has grown and indeed attracts a growing number of golden phoenixes, confirms Ms. Jingqiu Mao, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Munich.

Networking creates growth! After all, Bavarian business promotion aims much higher than just having companies settle in Bavaria. A top priority is that they can prosper and enjoy positive growth throughout the state. With this in mind, Invest in Bavaria together with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and the state capital of Munich invite Chinese companies based in Bavaria to an annual networking event. Of the 300 Chinese companies we are aware of, approx. 100 representatives took part in this year’s meeting held on November 21, 2016. They were joined by partners from Bavarian institutions who cooperate closely with the Chinese business community.

The participants received a first-hand insight into German provisions governing foreign nationals from Dr. Klaus Kirchmann and his colleagues from the foreigners’ registration authority (Ausländerbehörde) Munich. The Service Center for International Professionals, established as part of the welcoming culture in the state capital, will advise and inform qualified employees and shareholders to an even greater extent thus simplifying their way to the proper residency permits.

The evening’s events were then opened in the historical Silver Hall (Silbersaal) at the Deutsches Theater in Munich, where guests can marvel at the pompous neo-Rococo style, the typical Bavarian white and blue decorations and the relaxed atmosphere created by the island-shaped seating and professional musical accompaniment.

Following a brief welcome by Ms. Mao, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Ms. Roider from the state capital of Munich and Dr. Hübschle, head of Invest in Bavaria, two “Newcomers of the Year” from recently relocated Chinese companies introduced themselves which proved to be an absolute highlight for the audience attending that evening.

Just hours after launching the revolutionary brand Nio EP9 in London, the “fastest electric car” in the world with 1,360 horsepower was personally presented by Dr. Wefelscheid, from NextEV GmbH, at our meeting. The German branch of the company based in Munich serves as design and engineering centre for the electric car manufacturer, which will employ approx. 200 engineers by the year 2020.

Responding to the question posed by the hosts, “Who knows Alibaba,” most attendees raised their hands without hesitating. However, only a few came forward after the second question “who knows Alibaba’s business models in Europe.” The Alibaba (Germany) GmbH was founded in Munich in 2015, with the goal of “making trade easier”, a goal clearly defined by founder Jack Ma. Mr. Wehner, Director Business Development, sees excellent opportunities for cooperation with German producers when entering the Chinese market.
