The Bavarian space ecosystem is growing strongly and is also enjoying increasing international recognition. In order to further develop the ecosystem and strengthen its innovative power and competitiveness, international cooperation is an important asset. A key European partner here is the United Kingdom. With 12.4%, the UK is the third largest ESA contributor and around 75% of the UK Space Agency's annual budget goes to ESA. With over 49,000 employees and over 1,590 UK-registered facilities in the space sector, it offers a diverse industrial and research landscape. It is focusing on new future technologies, particularly in the areas of Earth observation and manufacturing in space, but is also further strengthening its historically strong expertise in satellite communications, including with its newly established Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit (C-LEO) program.

Bavaria and the United Kingdom are important partners in Europe. The potential for cooperation was further emphasized by the signing of a joint declaration of intent on the expansion of cooperation between Bavaria and the United Kingdom in September 2023. One of the key areas of bilateral cooperation is the topic of future mobility, including aerospace.

The aim of the event is to present the UK ecosystem, the recently published UK Space Industry Plan and the numerous investments and initiatives announced by the UK government in order to highlight market opportunities and cooperation potential for Bavarian companies and stakeholders. A further contribution will specifically highlight the Scottish market, as Scotland offers the entire integrated space value chain. In particular, the production of small satellites, data processing (especially with regard to earth observation) as well as rocket launch capacities and spaceports will be discussed.
