MUNICH / GARCHING The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security (AISEC) in Garching is being funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs with 5 million euros as part of its high-tech agenda. It is specifically supporting the "Cognitive Security" project. Minister of Economics Hubert Aiwanger handed over the funding notice. Aiwanger: "Bavaria is systematically embracing artificial intelligence (AI). This gives us room for manoeuvre in important fields of application such as IT security and autonomous driving. Bavaria is in the fast lane for this technological development with Fraunhofer AISEC. What is being researched and tested here will be used in companies in the future. Our research funding today is an investment in the technological leadership of tomorrow."
 
The "Cognitive Security Technologies" department researches at the interface between IT security and AI. Within the framework of the project, example applications will be developed in the three scenarios of establishing situation information, security in mobility and AI for security checks.
 
Prof. Dr. Claudia Eckert, head of the institute at Fraunhofer AISEC: "Our decisions are increasingly based on the results of AI systems. The correctness and trustworthiness of these systems is therefore becoming more important. Cyber security research makes an important contribution to making AI trustworthy. Fraunhofer AISEC develops secure AI-based solutions, but also testing and certification methods and concrete tools to support companies in assessing AI processes with regard to their vulnerability and to toughen them up in a targeted manner."
