Munich Airport: New direct link between the high-tech locations of Bavaria and Taiwan

The Taiwanese airline EVA Airways Corp. will fly to Germany for the first time, connecting Munich and Taipei via a 12-hour direct flight in November 2022. The route will be operated four times a week in both directions. Flights to the Taiwanese metropolis depart from Munich on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The EVA Air inaugural flight was operated by a Boeing 777 in a special “Hello Kitty” livery. The airline, which has been a member of the Star Alliance since 2013, has chosen the Bavarian capital as its sixth destination in Europe and first in Germany.

The new partnership offers companies from Taiwan and Bavaria a direct link. Taiwan is Bavaria’s fourth most important trading partner in Asia after China, Japan, and South Korea. Numerous Bavarian companies are based in Taiwan, including adidas, BMW, Bosch, MAN Energy Solutions, DELO, Infineon and Siemens. The special glass manufacturer Josef Gartner GmbH from Gundelfingen is responsible for the facade of Taipei 101, which was the tallest building in the world from 2004 to 2007 at 508 meters.

“We welcome EVA AIR as a new star in the Munich sky. EVA AIR complements our diversified Asia offering, especially with its excellent connecting flights. The addition of the new flights between Taipei and Munich expands our intercontinental network and is also a positive sign for the continued recovery of traffic at Munich Airport.” – Jost Lammers, Managing Director of Munich Airport

In many IT product groups and in the textile sector, Taiwan is part of established supply chains and the world market leader in electronic components. As the host of Electronica and the embedded world, two of the world’s leading trade fairs for the electronics industry, and ISPO, the meeting place for the international sports community, Bavaria is a particularly attractive destination for Taiwanese companies. All three record numerous exhibitors from the Southeast Asian country.

Close economic relations between Taiwan and Bavaria

Bavaria is also an attractive location for Taiwanese companies. About 60 companies are already represented here, including internationally renowned ones such as Taiwan Semiconductor (TSC), Advantech, Belkin, ATP Electronics.

A Taipei representative office is also located in Munich, which is responsible for Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
