US company Apple wants to invest another billion euros in Munich
MUNICH Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, welcomes Apple's announcement today that it will invest a further billion euros in its European Centre for Chip Design at the Munich site. “I am very happy about this decision. When it comes to semiconductors, the Free State and its capital city are now among the best places in the world. Our advantage is the combination of a strong industry and cutting-edge research. We launched a semiconductor initiative in Bavaria last year to strengthen our location. As the Ministry of Economics, we ourselves are promoting the establishment of a Bavarian Centre for Chip Design. As an initial step, we have already earmarked around 30 million euros for the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in 2022. That’s why Apple’s decision for Munich is absolutely understandable.”
At the first Bavarian Semiconductor Congress in June 2022, the Minister of Economic Affairs launched the Bavarian Chips Alliance, the state government’s semiconductor initiative.
