Pschierer: “Once again, the efficiency of the State of Bavaria is documented by the distribution centre in the district of Augsburg.”

MUNICH/KLEINAITINGEN    The BMW Group is expanding its centralised spare parts logistics system. After a decision was made to establish a new distribution centre in Kleinaitingen (in the district of Augsburg) in early May, designed to supply dealerships in the southern region of Germany as well as in Austria, the topping-out ceremony took place today. Bavaria's Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Franz Josef Pschierer: “I would like to thank the BMW Group for their clear commitment to Bavaria as a business location. I am well aware of the tremendous importance the automotive industry has for Bavaria. The industry plays a crucial part in our tremendous economic strength, the low level of unemployment and our global innovation leadership.” The distribution centre has created approximately 240 new jobs. “Thanks to the establishment of the new distribution centre, Swabia will continue its successful economic development. In view of the fact that Amazon, Aldi, DHL and Lidl and now the BMW Group have all settled here, the Lechfeld and the entire region of Augsburg is evolving into a first-rate logistics location”, says Pschierer.

The Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology had been heavily involved in the project from the outset, together through its Business Promotion Agency Invest in Bavaria. The BMW Group commissioned Goodman – an integrated real estate and project development group headquartered in Australia – with the task of planning and constructing the new facility. The distribution centre is to be managed by a logistics service provider commissioned by the BMW Group and is set to commence its operations in March 2016.
