Niggl: "The Upper Palatinate region offers an excellent basis for developing economic relations between Bavaria and Russia."
MUNICH Headquartered in Moscow, the Russian company Asberg AS has established its first Western European branch in Weiden and is scheduled to begin business activities in July 2013. Asberg AS was established in Moscow in 1998 and is one of the leading providers of electrical devices of renowned foreign manufacturers on the Russian market. Alexey Smirnov, owner of the Asberg AS consortium, decided to open a branch in Germany for strategic reasons and thus established the Smirnov GmbH in Weiden. "The company branch in Weiden, located in the Upper Palatinate region, is the perfect solution for developing the product program of Asberg AS and expanding business relations in Germany. I believe that Weiden offers all the conditions we need to further intensify the development of our international business," says Smirnov. Johann Niggl, Head of Invest in Bavaria, the Business Promotion Agency of the Free State of Bavaria, welcomes the company at the Weiden location: "I would like to welcome the Smirnov GmbH to Bavaria and wish them a successful launch for their business. With an export rate of around 50 per cent in the processing industry, which is steadily increasing, the Upper Palatinate offers an excellent basis for developing the economic relations between Bavaria and Russia." Around 95 Russian companies are currently based in Bavaria. The state is home to over 30,000 Russian citizens, and over 1,700 Bavarian companies have business relations with Russia.
