Aigner: “With Nuremberg/Erlangen we have already received the award for a 'Digital Hub' for the second time in Bavaria”

MUNICH  The Europäische Metropolregion Nürnberg (European Nuremberg Metropolitan Region - EMN) e.V. is the official hub for the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy 2025 Digital Strategy’s Digital Hub initiative. The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Brigitte Zypries announced this today. State Minister of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology Ilse Aigner: “I congratulate the Nuremberg/Erlangen metropolitan region and Medical Valley EMN e.V. on their successful application. We have already received the award for a 'Digital Hub' for the second time in Bavaria with the topic of e-health. This shows: The state of Bavaria has an outstanding infrastructure for digitalisation and in various industries. “Munich was already selected as the 'Digital Hub' for mobility in November.

The Nuremberg/Erlangen metropolitan region offers the ideal basic conditions for the e-health hub. Besides established (world) market leaders in the healthcare industry, many growing start-ups and spin-offs from highly specialised research institutions are at home in the Medical Valley. Highly professional hub management is also available with Medical Valley EMN e.V.. Medical Valley EMN e.V. pools more than 200 members from business, science, healthcare, networks and politics and has extensive experience in digital health, for example through coordinating the 'Franconia digital healthcare industry model region'. In addition, Medical Valley EMN e.V. is the coordinator of the 'Digital health/medicine' platform at the Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern. Aigner: “We consolidate our expertise in digitalisation at the Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern. The digital transformation in health/medicine has been given another boost with the choice of Nuremberg/Erlangen as an e-health hub.”

Twelve regional centres, so-called hubs, are being developed throughout Germany as part of the 'Digital Hub' initiative. As a consortium of start-ups, science, SMEs, industry and administration they are to become centres of digital transformation with an international influence. “Medical Valley is already ideally internationally networked today,” says the Minister of Economic Affairs.

Another focus of the 'Digital Hub' initiative is to support collaborations between founders and established companies. Aigner also sees Bavaria as being superbly positioned here: “We promote close collaboration between start-ups and founders with established company as part of the 'Bavaria: Home of Start-Ups' initiative. The sharing of ideas, technologies and new concepts is lucrative for both sides. Right from the start, we have resolutely focused on dovetailing this with our 'Bayern Digital' digitalisation strategy. This approach is being strengthened further thanks to the new hub and unleashes additional creative entrepreneurial potential in the state of Bavaria.
