State Secretary for Economic Affairs Weigert: "Bavaria must remain a pioneer and trendsetter in tourism in the long term"

MUNICH / KEMPTEN°° Kempten University of Applied Sciences, Allgäu GmbH, the four Bavaria tourism associations, the Bavarian hotel and gastronomy association DEHOGA, the Bavarian health spas association, Bayern Tourismus Marketing GmbH, the Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BIHK) and the Bavarian Business Association (vbw) are founding the Bavarian Centre for Tourism based at Kempten University of Applied Science at the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. The Free State of Bavaria is supporting the association with up to one million euros in budget funds each year. Bavaria's State Secretary for Economic Affairs Roland Weigert: "Bavaria must remain a pioneer and trendsetter in tourism in the long term. The centre will pick up on future tourism topics in Bavaria, support the interdisciplinary sharing of experiences in Bavarian tourism and inspire new momentum for the sustainable, economic and social development of tourism in Bavaria"

The focus is particularly on the even better transfer of scientific findings into tourism practice. The members of the association elected Prof Dr Alfred Bauer, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism at Kempten University of Applied Sciences, as their chairman. He is assisted by Prof Dr Jürgen Schmude from Munich's Ludwig Maximilian University and the managing director of Allgäu GmbH, Klaus Fischer, as the other members of the Executive Board. A scientific advisory board, consisting of representatives from Bavarian universities and colleges related to tourism, will advise the board in future. The interface to companies in the tourism industry is ensured by a practical advisory board.

The Bavarian Centre for Tourism is working closely together with Bavarian universities with tourism expertise in order to use the existing institutions’ structures and knowledge and strengthen tourism research. In addition to documenting and imparting practical knowledge, the main focus of the Bavarian Centre for Tourism will be on the sharing of experiences by organising specialist events, symposia and congresses, as well as more further training activities. The Bavarian Centre for Tourism is encouraging the imitation of already successful tourism projects by presenting best practice examples.
