Munich, 20 June 2017: During the first DLD Campus on 21 June, 2017 at the University of Bayreuth, Invest in Bavaria is presenting companies from Upper Franconia who have successfully coped with digital structural change. Thanks to support from the business development agency for the State of Bavaria, the region is becoming a showcase for successful transition from an industrial to high-tech location.
The DLD (Digital, Life, Design) innovation conference has established itself as a platform for opinion leaders and innovators from all over the world since its foundation in 2005. Conferences in metropolises such as Munich, New York City, Brussels and Tel Aviv as well as DLD salons in Tokyo, London and other cities gather creative and social opinion leaders and influencers together worldwide. The new one-day DLD Campus conference format being held for the first time is supposed to specifically focus on regions and universities outside major cities with their unique features – in this case the digital potential in research and industry in Upper Franconia.
Panel discussion with entrepreneurs from the region
Invest in Bavaria is initiating a panel discussion where regional examples of best practice are presented to an international audience during the DLD Campus. “We are therefore delighted that the decision was made to choose Bayreuth as the location for the first DLD Campus. This clearly shows that all Bavarian regions contribute to the digital progress in the state and structural change is not just concentrated on the major cities,” explains Dr. Wolfgang Hübschle, Head of Invest in Bavaria.
Speakers appearing on the “Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Upper Franconia” panel are:
• Alois Kastner-Maresch, CEO of LivingLogic AG, Bayreuth: The founder with a focus on LivingApps, a digital work environment for social intranets, knowledge platforms and smart communication, is convinced that German start-ups have the potential to compete with the Silicon Valley. Their strength lies in the depth and complexity with which they are engaging with digital topics.
• Ralf Männlein, CEO of empiriecom, Weismain: “E-commerce is the dynamic driving force in retail. As a service provider we are deliberately further developing our core business at the head office of BAUR, our parent company, in Upper Franconia. And as part of the worldwide active Otto Group we are breaking new ground in e-commerce at the same time. Our major strengths are our 100 online pros who have expertise in all the relevant online tasks and disciplines.”
• Sigrun Albert, Managing Director of MGO Digital Ventures, Bamberg: The risk capital provider, a subsidiary of the Mediengruppe Oberfranken in Bamberg, supports start-ups in their early growth phase. Sigrun Albert identifies very promising start-ups and helps companies with digital transformation processes.
The panel is being facilitated by the journalist and presentation coach Sven Goblirsch. The native Franconian has already worked as a facilitator at several start-up events and regularly coaches Burda Bootcamp start-ups.

About DLD Campus
The way to the university is not new for the DLD team led by Steffi Czerny: a successful series of lectures for students with a different DLD speaker every year is held under the same title at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich during the DLD conference in January. The huge interest in this series of events is not least the motivation to establish a new one-day conference format at a German university with the DLD Campus and focus on regions outside major cities. In future the DLD Campus will be organised as a new annual conference series with several events.
