MUNICH - Bavaria's Economic Minister Martin Zeil declares his reaction to the latest SME Barometer from Ernst & Young: "Bavaria is location number one in Germany. The top marks for the conditions and for Bavaria's policies on small and medium-sized businesses, business promotion and education awarded by the small and medium-sized businesses asked clearly show that we are on the right path."
According to the latest SME Barometer, Bavaria is at the top of the league table of federal states in the evaluation of regional conditions, just like last year. 88 per cent of the companies asked considered the location good or rather good. Significantly more companies are absolutely happy with the regional conditions in Bavaria (44 per cent) than the nationwide average (34 per cent).
According to the survey results, in no other state are the companies currently as happy with the local policy for small and medium-sized businesses as they are in Bavaria. This allowed Bavaria to move up the state ranking from third place last year to first place now. When it comes to evaluating education policy, Bavaria is also top of the league among the federal states (position in previous year: 3). Bavaria is also currently unbeaten with regard to satisfaction with business promotion policy, and is in the number one position by quite some way (position in previous year: 2).
"Bavaria is in an outstanding position today. This is thanks to the excellent performance of our small and medium-sized businesses. But business initiative can only succeed if politicians provide the tailwind that entrepreneurs, freelancers and self-employed people need. In Bavaria, we have followed this path consistently over the last few years, and this is paying off," emphasises Zeil.
The SME Barometer from Ernst & Young has been published annually since 2003 and is based on a Germany-wide telephone survey of managing directors and owners of 3,000 small and medium-sized companies. 375 small and medium-sized companies in Bavaria were questioned for this purpose in January 2013.
