15th meeting of the Bavarian foreign representatives in Augsburg

Hessel: "Further Bavarian representatives in China and Chile"

MUNICH / AUGSBURG - The Free State of Bavaria is represented with own foreign offices in over 20 countries around the world important to the Bavarian export economy, such as Japan, India, China, Brazil, the USA and the United Arab Emirates. "Our representatives are the first port of call for Bavarian companies abroad, broker valuable contacts and help companies to gain access to new export markets," emphasised Bavarian State Secretary for the Economy, Katja Hessel, on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Bavarian foreign representatives, taking place today and tomorrow in Augsburg.
"I am delighted that we are adding further promising growth markets to our successful network of representatives this year. During my official visit to Chile and Peru this year, in April I will open our third representation in Latin America, headquartered in Santiago de Chile. The representation is intended to support Bavarian companies as they enter the attractive markets of Argentina, Chile, Peru and Columbia." The Bavarian Ministry for the Economy is also reacting to China's key significance for both foreign trade and location marketing by opening a second office in China, in the southern city of Shenzhen.
As part of the two-day conference, Hessel has invited participants to an "Evening of Foreign Trade" tonight. This will offer companies, multipliers, representatives of the consular corps in Bavaria and actors in foreign trade an opportunity to speak to all the foreign representatives.
But the representatives do not just make an important contribution to promoting Bavarian foreign trade. They also carry out active location marketing for Bavaria. Together with the business promotion agency 'Invest in Bavaria', they contribute significantly to shaping Bavaria's profile as an international business location. "They acquire potential investors abroad and support them from the moment they begin considering expansion to the time they settle in Bavaria," explains Hessel. In cooperation with the Bavarian representatives, Invest in Bavaria successfully supported and completed over 80 investment projects by interested companies from these target countries in 2012.
