On your marks, get set, go! The New Year's Reception for Japanese companies in Bavaria starts off the New Year 2016.

As it befits a country whose name includes the word “origin” (“hon”) in its Japanese name (“Nihon”), Invest in Bavaria's first event of the year, the tradition-steeped New Year's Reception, took place recently for company representatives from Japan in the new city hall on the Marienplatz.

The networking event has has firmly established itself in the Japanese community in Bavaria and is held by Invest in Bavaria in a long-standing collaboration with the business promotion of the City of Munich, the Japanese Consulate General in Munich as well as the JETRO (Japanese External Trade Organization) and the Japan Club Munich

Approximately 100 participants from 70 companies from a wide variety of sectors enjoyed the festive event in the small meeting room. The reception in the awe-inspiring, neo-Gothic atmosphere is valued highly by the Japanese managers, as everyone recognises the new city hall on the Marienplatz and its chimes, but only few people know which architectural gem is hidden behind the historic walls.

The event was opened by a greeting from Consul General Hidenao Yanagi, who used this opportunity to emphasise how trusting and constructive Bavarian-Japanese business cooperation has been for years. He sees a continued large investment potential in Bavaria for the future.

Quite exhilarated, Dr Wolfgang Hübschle, Head of Invest in Bavaria, announced in his greeting that Japan was among the countries with the highest amount of foreign direct investment in Bavaria in 2015. Look at that! This is something Bavaria can be proud of too!

However, leaning back and resting on its laurels would be the wrong approach. Backed by successful news and positive settlement successes from the Land of the Rising Sun, team Japan at Invest in Bavaria will put even greater effort into making Bavaria even more attractive to Japanese companies in the future.

KAMPAI (cheers) to the New Year, new luck!
