Munich Creative Business Week Design-Hotspot in Bavaria

Bavarian design connects. Such was the case when we invited top-class guests to the #bytevaria discussion panel at the end of last year to discuss the numerous advantages of Bavaria as a location.

One of the guests was Yasar Ceviker, co-founder of the A Kind Of Guise fashion label. He talked about his experiences in Munich as the “secret” design capital in Germany.

At the end of February, Munich will officially become the Mecca for all those interested in design. From the 20th to 28th February, the Munich Creative Business Week will take place for the fifth time. Leading the way in focusing the MCBW is bayern design, which serves as the central point of contact for Bavaria companies and designers and coordinates all design activities in Bavaria.

This year, the event is being held under the motto “Design Connects Visions For Economy” and thus provides an example of the increased interconnection between business and design. Specifically, this means that digitization will increasingly become the driver of innovation for the design of brands and products. Another side effect – the user becomes more and more involved in the designing and determining of not just brands but also in companies and society.

Bavaria as a driver of innovation

Companies in Bavaria realised this long ago and compete with the international frontrunners when it come to the development of new designs and technologies. And applying to them as well: whoever strives for long-term success cannot ignore the topic of creativity. This applies in particular to future markets, such as medical technology, urban planning and mobility. The interfaces to digital topics, such as digital lifestyle, Industry 4.0 or communication, are available and will become increasingly important in the coming years. Munich, in particular, can build on its international renown. Small workshops, well-known creative agencies and large corporations such as Siemens or BWM set the standards when it comes to innovative design. All of these companies can find a forum at the MCBW, where they can exchange information on the newest developments; entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas can use the MCBW START UP networking platform to introduce and network themselves. And more so, the trade fair offers a rich assortment of conferences, talks, workshops and exhibitions.

Partner country Netherlands

The partner country of the MCBW this year is the Netherlands, where design has also been one of the most important drivers of innovation over the last years. Just as in Bavaria, the interplay between technology, research, the business and politics plays an important role. A literally larger-than-life example of this is Studio Roosegaarde's “Smog Free Tower”, which removes 30,000 cubic metres of particulate matter from the air every hour.

Outstanding design

Another highlight of the creative week is the presentation of the internationally orientated iF design award, which will take place on February 26th at BMW Welt. For this occasion, the iF Industrie Forum Design e.V. presents the best products in the disciplines of Product, Communication, Packaging, Interior Architecture and Professional Concept, Service Design and Architecture.
