Latest city ranking confirms bright future for Munich
Munich's share of foreign workers gained it extra recognition, and the city is rapidly gaining when it comes to population development
The Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) and its partner Berdenberg Bank have analysed the 30 largest German cities with a view to their future viability for the third time, following analyses in 2008 and 2010. The Bavarian capital Munich was in the top two, together with Frankfurt. Munich's share of foreign workers gained it extra recognition, and the city is rapidly gaining when it comes to population development. Growth of 9.4 per cent between 2005 and 2011 raises hopes that the Bavarian metropolis will move up to the number one position in the future, says HWWI director Thomas Straubhaar. HWWI Director Thomas Straubhaar believes that prosperous cities attract employees, which in turn has a positive impact on their ability to develop further.
