Captain America: a Hollywood blockbuster powered by Bavaria

“Captain America: Civil War”, the upcoming third part of the Captain America comic adaptation set for release next year will be financially supported by FilmFernsehFonds Bayern.

With the intention of strengthening Bavaria as a VFX (visual effects) location, the FFF Bayern is making a six-figure investment in the VFX producer Trixter, a company based in Munich which is responsible for the visual effects used in the film.

In addition to increasing the funds available and expanding funding to VFX producers based in Germany, FFF Bayern has also been supporting the Bavarian computer games industry for some time now as part of the “Bayern Digital” strategy for the future. As announced at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne by the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, Ms Ilse Aigner, the Bavarian state government will be supporting the development of computer games with an educational or cultural value with financial resources from the fund. “The computer games industry is a perfect example of a business segment which is completely digital. It drives innovation in other media-related areas and the conventional economy. [...] We support game developers with funds from the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern. So far, we have been able to support 64 projects with almost EUR 3.5 million.”

Over the course of the past year, FFF Bayern has been supporting a total of twelve projects with a total amount of EUR 815,000. Three of the games funded by FFF Bayern, “The Last Tinker: City of Colors”, “Bernd das Brot und die Unmöglichen” and “Ship Simulator: Maritime Research and Rescue”, celebrated their release in 2014, and three new projects – “Shift Happens”, “GameDeck: Mara und der Feuerbringer” and “Trails of Exodus” – have already been announced for the current year, with a total funding of EUR 214,000. Developer studios that wish to apply for funding from FFF Bayer have the opportunity to apply twice using the entry forms available here. The current deadline for applications for funding in the area of computer games development will end on 6th October 2015 at 6 pm. Interested companies should submit their application until that date/time.
