Aschauer Bankerl – a place to slow down
A great idea has sprung up in Aschau im Chiemgau. Guests who go hiking in these beautiful surroundings have various chances to take a break and relax on one of the "Aschauer Bankerl" benches that have been erected along the "Boarischer Entschleunigungsweg" (Bavarian relaxation path).
The benches are comfortable and very special: produced by local craftsmen and donated by local companies and families. Each bench is dedicated to one of a total of 10 topic stations that invite visitors to relax while also teaching them a little of the Bavarian traditions and way of life in a charming way. They start with simple physical exercises at the "Boarisch abhängen" (hanging around, Bavarian style) station and offer the option of "mit dem Ofenrohr ins Gebirg schauen" (a German saying meaning 'to come away empty-handed', literally 'to look at the mountains through a pipe'). The view from Aschau towards the Alps is magnificent here. The final stations include "Boarisch meditieren" (meditating, Bavarian style), the "Himmelswiege" (heavenly hammock) and the "Kirchenbankerl" (church bench).
Guests love it, and they're not the only ones – A reporter from the broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk has already walked the route from bench to bench. You can find some impressions of Aschau here (German only).
